  • OUR THREE NUGGETS - 9/27/22

    Hello JSS Families,

I want to take a moment and thank you for making it through yesterday.  All of us involved in ensuring the well-being of students are reminded of just how precious life can be on days like that.  We are thankful that the incident off campus didn't turn into a worst-case scenario.  I am especially grateful for the support our District Office provided as well as the actions of our JSS staff, everyone acted quickly to protect our school community.  Finally, parents and students also did a great job following directions and then returning to school after the lockdown was lifted.  Great job JSS community!

Sorry for the delay…here are  OUR THREE NUGGETS

     Nugget #1  - Golden Tickets

We began using our Golden Ticket rewards system last Friday and it has been an incredible success.  We had over 200 Golden Tickets passed out on Friday!  Students are being recognized all over campus for being RAMTASTIC.  Specifically we are calling out when we see them being Respectful, Accepting, Motivated and/or Safe.  Students bring their GT to the office where they are placed in a Pot of Gold where we will draw from for weekly and monthly prizes.  Don't forget, students keep the top portion of the ticket to share with families, hopefully you’ve seen them!

     Nugget #2  - Progress Reports

We are in the process of mailing out progress reports this week.  Remember, you are able to view your student’s progress online by logging into your AERIES account.  We mail out copies as a courtesy and you should see them by the end of next week.

Nugget #3  - JSS Fall Athletics Teams

Here’s a shout out to our Fall Athletic Teams, Cross country and Volleyball.  We’re so glad that we have the opportunity to participate this year.  Our students are doing great!  Go Rams!

    ONGOING - Minimum Day Reminder

Our next minimum day is WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28.  Students are dismissed at 1:15pm.

Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns.  We are here for you!

  • Dress Code & Cell Phone Policy Feedback

    Hello JSS Families and Staff,
We hope you enjoyed our Back to School Night and learned a lot about what we're trying to accomplish on campus.  We are very thankful for the opportunity to help raise the children of Yreka and Siskiyou county and look forward to a successful school year.

As your teachers mentioned, we are in the process of establishing policies and procedures through a collaborative approach, which includes staff and students!  Here is the link to our first School Policy DRAFT.  It includes a summary of the work staff and students have been doing and concludes with the policies (MAIN POINTS).

Please take a few minutes and read through the information.

Now we'd like to hear from everyone.  Please follow this link Dress Code and Cell Phone Policy Feedback and take a few minutes to complete our feedback form.  We plan to collect feedback until Friday, September 23, 2022.

Thank you in advance for helping us with this process!

  • Our Three Nuggets - 9/5/22

    Hello JSS Families,

     Nugget #1
Back to School Night - Our Back TSchool Night for ALL GRADES is Wednesday, September 7 from 5:30-6:30pm.  BTSN is primarily for Parents and Guardians to meet the teacher and learn about what the class has in store for the year.  Your students' teachers will be sending more information home soon.  Students DO NOT need to attend.  However, if leaving them home isn't an option, we will provide limited supervision on the playground.  Please let your teacher know if you will be able to attend without students.

     Nugget #2  - Water bottles
This year we have been providing students with water bottles during lunch.  Students have been very appreciative, especially during the hotter days.  However, this hasn't occurred without some challenges.  A few students have been abusing this privilege by spraying other students with water.  We would appreciate you checking in with your child and reminding them to just drink the water and then recycle the bottles.  Thanks for the support!

Nugget #3  - NO MINIMUM DAY THIS WEEK

Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns.  We are here for you!

    Respectfully,

    Rich Sullivan, Principal

  • Our Three Nuggets - 8/29/22

    Hello JSS Families,

Our staff theme this year is "Go For the Gold"

Establishing a theme for the year helps us focus on what's important and guides our work.  No matter what the theme is, we are always devoted to keeping students at the center of all we do.  For this to happen, we can't get bogged down in the details or try to do so much that we never really accomplish anything.  To help keep our focus on what's important, each staff member identified a main thing they want to work on and accomplish for the year.  As a result, these main things represent the
"Gold" we are all going for.

We believe providing clear communication, listening to feedback, and engaging staff, students, families and our community is crucial to student success. In order to keep you well informed and included in our work, we will be sending out a weekly message that is simple and focused on what's most important.  We call it our "Three Nuggets"  and this is our first edition!

Nugget #2 - Student Handbook Focus Groups
We are in the process of updating our student handbook.  The handbook includes policies and procedures as well as a lot of important information to help families and students be successful throughout the year.   We believe including students in this process is important, so this week we will be conducting student focus group meetings to hear what they think should be included.  We anticipate sharing a rough draft at BTSN to give families a chance to chime in as well.

Nugget #3 - Minimum Day Reminder

Our first minimum day went very smoothly, thank you everyone!  This is a reminder that our next minimum day is WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31.  Students are dismissed at 1:15pm.

I hope the first week went well and this message helps prepare you for a great week!  Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns.

  • WELCOME BACK!

    Dear JSS Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome you back to school and I hope this finds you rested and ready for the 2022-2023 school year!

Needless to say, it has been a very eventful summer!  Between the fires, heat and staffing changes, we are all looking forward to the excitement of a new school year.  Our district maintenance department has been working tirelessly to install our new HVAC system, so we've had to adjust some things that we would normally do to begin the year.  Rest assured, our staff is committed to serving students and their families by working as a team to help each child reach their fullest potential.  Our focus is on student growth and on meeting each child exactly where they are in their academic journey. This means that your child will receive instruction that is appropriate to their needs...when they need it!  We are dedicated to creating a school environment and culture that hopefully leads to Jackson Street School being the “Greatest Place on Earth” for each and everyone who steps foot on our campus.

Families play a huge role in this. We urge you to take part as much as possible in the daily life of our school. Please consider volunteering in your child’s classroom, helping out your teacher or even joining our Yreka USD team. There are many areas where your help would be appreciated both at home and at school, depending on what your schedule permits. Don’t hesitate to contact our office about how to get involved.

Providing effective communication is a goal of ours this year.  To help with this, we have a new FACEBOOK page and our SCHOOL WEBSITE will be updated regularly.  Remember, your student's teacher is the best source of information to meet your needs.  Please know, our office staff is also ready to assist you and our School Administrative team is available to discuss any concerns you may have after you have connected with your child’s teacher.  We will be sending home more information in the first week of school, so check with your student, or visit our school website and Facebook page often.

I’m looking forward to a great year and to meeting all students and their families both at school and at Back to School Night!

    Sincerely,

    Rich Sullivan, Principal
