    Re:       Reopening

OPENING OF SCHOOL IN AUGUST!!  That being said, this is a FIRST draft of a plan to reopen school, which will allow ALL stakeholders to express their views and suggestions.  Our goal is to provide you with enough information to make the best decision for your student(s).

With the ever changing conditions of COVID-19 we have been working hard to develop a plan that will work for our community.  Our administrators have been working with teachers who have volunteered numerous hours to collaborate and generate ideas to produce a plan that will allow for students to receive a quality education, and keep all stakeholders safe.  We strive to develop a plan that keeps students/staff at the forefront and allows flexibility for us to adapt the plan to suit our needs as the conditions of COVID-19 continue to evolve.

Our Distance Learning Program (HomeSchool) will be available to any family that feels that is the best option for their situation.

Families will be able to choose between Program 1 (Distance Learning) or Program 2 (In-Person).  The commitment will be for at least the grading period.

Here is a brief overview of our current plan:

    • TK-5 Grades:
      • Students attend everyday in person.

                            ○    CDC and Public Health guidelines will be adhered to regarding face coverings.

    • Grades 6-8:
      • Hybrid Model: students on campus at least 2x per week.

                            ○    Non-campus days will be Distance Learning/HomeSchool

                            ○    Certain populations will be allowed on campus 5 days/week.

    ○    Non-Student day 1x/week:  allow staff to collaborate and prepare lessons for distance and in-person learning.

There are many other aspects that we are continually analyzing and working on to create a system that will keep students/staff as our priority:

    • Proposing to have school day begin at 8:00am (NOT 8:30am as in the past.) ● Recess given to individual cohorts.
    • Students report directly to classroom/homeroom for morning routines
      • Handwashing, screening, pledge, attendance, breakfast, announcements, etc.

                            ○    Parents will not be allowed to escort their child to class.

    ○    Homeroom for middle school = cohort that they will remain with for the entire school day.

    ■    Lessons from other content teachers will be viewed in “cohort” class and “cohort” teachers will facilitate those lessons.

                            ○    Hybrid/Distance Students will complete lessons at home.

                                            ■    All students will have “live” interaction everyday.

    • Logistics of enrichment classes are still being worked out. ● Meal consumed in classroom w/ cohort.

We are going to rely on parents/families to be of great assistance to us, not just with the academic endeavors, but with screening and working with school staff to ensure everyone’s safety.

    • We are asking that parents NOT come on campus, unless called by the school or emergency. We are attempting to decrease the volume of traffic in our offices.
    • Face coverings will be required for all visitors.
    • We will work with families to educate parents on screening their student everyday prior to arriving at the school.

Our main goal is to get our students back to campus in as safe of a manner as possible.  That is safety for our students and staff that is paramount.  We all have a responsibility to do our individual best to decrease the spread of this virus.

This plan is NOT inclusive and is a work in progress.  THIS WILL CHANGE!!!! If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Harris at 842-1168 or charris@yrekausd.net.  You are also more than welcome and encouraged  to contact any administrator and/or board member to provide input.  We will ask parents to commit to Distance Learning by Thursday, August 6, 2020.

The purpose of this survey is to get an understanding of areas needing improvement, but also to celebrate areas where our district is providing the best experience possible.  Please take the time to complete this survey as this input will help guide our discussions and decisions within our district.
