Dress Code & Cell Phone Policy Feedback
Hello JSS Families and Staff,
We hope you enjoyed our Back to School Night and learned a lot about what we're trying to accomplish on campus. We are very thankful for the opportunity to help raise the children of Yreka and Siskiyou county and look forward to a successful school year.
As your teachers mentioned, we are in the process of establishing policies and procedures through a collaborative approach, which includes staff and students! Here is the link to our first . It includes a summary of the work staff and students have been doing and concludes with the policies (MAIN POINTS).
Please take a few minutes and read through the information.
Now we'd like to hear from everyone. Please follow this link and take a few minutes to complete our feedback form. We plan to collect feedback until Friday, September 23, 2022.
Thank you in advance for helping us with this process!
Hello JSS Families,
Back to School Night - Our Back To School Night for ALL GRADES is Wednesday, September 7 from 5:30-6:30pm. BTSN is primarily for Parents and Guardians to meet the teacher and learn about what the class has in store for the year. Your students' teachers will be sending more information home soon. Students DO NOT need to attend. However, if leaving them home isn't an option, we will provide limited supervision on the playground. Please let your teacher know if you will be able to attend without students.
Nugget #2 - Water bottles
This year we have been providing students with water bottles during lunch. Students have been very appreciative, especially during the hotter days. However, this hasn't occurred without some challenges. A few students have been abusing this privilege by spraying other students with water. We would appreciate you checking in with your child and reminding them to just drink the water and then recycle the bottles. Thanks for the support!
Nugget #3 - NO MINIMUM DAY THIS WEEK
Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns. We are here for you!
Check out this info about our Long Term Independent Study Program.
Dear JSS Families,
It is my pleasure to welcome you back to school and I hope this finds you rested and ready for the 2022-2023 school year!
Needless to say, it has been a very eventful summer! Between the fires, heat and staffing changes, we are all looking forward to the excitement of a new school year. Our district maintenance department has been working tirelessly to install our new HVAC system, so we've had to adjust some things that we would normally do to begin the year. Rest assured, our staff is committed to serving students and their families by working as a team to help each child reach their fullest potential. Our focus is on student growth and on meeting each child exactly where they are in their academic journey. This means that your child will receive instruction that is appropriate to their needs...when they need it! We are dedicated to creating a school environment and culture that hopefully leads to Jackson Street School being the “Greatest Place on Earth” for each and everyone who steps foot on our campus.
Families play a huge role in this. We urge you to take part as much as possible in the daily life of our school. Please consider volunteering in your child’s classroom, helping out your teacher or even joining our Yreka USD team. There are many areas where your help would be appreciated both at home and at school, depending on what your schedule permits. Don’t hesitate to contact our office about how to get involved.
Providing effective communication is a goal of ours this year. To help with this, we have a new FACEBOOK page and our SCHOOL WEBSITE will be updated regularly. Remember, your student's teacher is the best source of information to meet your needs. Please know, our office staff is also ready to assist you and our School Administrative team is available to discuss any concerns you may have after you have connected with your child’s teacher. We will be sending home more information in the first week of school, so check with your student, or visit our school website and Facebook page often.
I’m looking forward to a great year and to meeting all students and their families both at school and at Back to School Night!
Rich Sullivan, Principal
About our School
Jackson Street Elementary School serves students in grades 4-8. Because of our large enrollment, we are able to offer a strong music program that includes band and choir at each grade level, one computer lab with Internet access, 1:1 ratio of devices (Chromebooks) to student, a media center with a librarian, a gymnasium, a multipurpose room, intramural and inter-scholastic competitive sports, and a strong physical education program.
The Yreka Union Elementary School District provides a strong academic program that is articulated across all grade levels. Our Curriculum Committee meets regularly to review programs to ensure that we are aligned to the California State Standards. We also provide services to meet the needs of our Special Education population, English Language Learners (ELL) and Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students. As a four-time recipient of the California Distinguished School Award, we are proud of the accomplishments of our Jackson Street School students, and will continue to provide a curriculum that produces articulate, confident, and skilled individuals.
Our goal at Jackson Street Elementary School is to provide every student with the tools to grow and develop educationally, so that every student has the opportunity to reach his/her full potential.
